All the articles I read for this week were from the democracy now website. The first article was about the three hikers that were arrested at the border of Iran and Iraq in 2009. The story is successful in giving vital information about what happened and when but not why.. It does not give any information about the origins of the trip or why exactly they were arrested. That are two facts I would be very interested to know.
The second article I read was about US poverty being at a record high. It gives numbers of the amount of poor people in the U.S which successfully paints a picture of the poverty levels but it could have been nice to compare the poverty of the U.S to the poverty levels of a 3rd world country. Also, nowhere in the article does it describe what exactly it means to be impoverished in the U.S. Although the article is a bit brief that seems like it would be key information to include in order to help create a more accurate picture of what exactly they are considering to be poor.
The third article I read was about the views of Noam Chomsky on the assassination of Bin Laden. It is an opinionated article which I thought could be interesting to read. But it also means that there are bias tones to it. "Right at this moment Obama has succeeded in descending even below Bushs' approval in the Arab world." -Chomsky. There is no hard evidence of this presented in the article at all which leads me to question if Chomsky is making this up or how exactly he came to say this.
Overall, democracy now seems like a good source for news if you are on the liberal side of things but if you want a more accurate and less bias approach other news sources may prove to be more helpful and insightful.
